"there are no 'elect' in the bible
since the very word is a mistranslation
"

In the KJV "elect" is only translated from the Greek word EKLEKTOS in the New Testament (NT) and BACHIR in the Old Testament (OT). The word "chosen", meaning the same as "elect" (selected) is also given from these two original words in the NT and OT. No other English words come from these two root words, except for one "choose" for BACHIR.

For the first 300 years of the church the OT read by Christians was the Greek translation of the original Hebrew (and the small portions in Aramaic). This version of the bible dating from 2-3 centuries BC is known as the Septuagint (LXX). So that in the writing of the NT, the OT quotes are those of the LXX.

The NT written in Greek then used this word EKLEKTOS no different to the way it was meant in the LXX. It is not reasonable to give it another meaning.

And what is the meaning the LXX gives to EKLEKTOS?
(Note: all occasions of BACHIR are rendered by EKLEKTOS in the LXX.)

The LXX shows us EKLEKTOS means "excellent, the best, tops" and nowhere is the meaning of "selected, chosen, elect" found for EKLEKTOS in the LXX.
We find this from 74 occasions where EKLEKTOS renders 24 different Hebrew words.

This is succinctly the truth of the matter.

Since "elect" in the KJV is only given from these 2 root words, in regards to this well known version, there are no elect in the bible (it is a mistranslation).

So that, for this part of Peter's letter:

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father

1 Peter 1:1-2a KJV

Here is the YLT (and in the order given in the Greek) - Note the YLT uses the same Greek text as the KJV:

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the choice sojourners of the dispersion of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, according to a foreknowledge of God the Father

1 Peter 1:1-2a YLT
