YOU CAN SEE FOR YOURSELF
"elect" (the word)

Should not be in the bible

HERE'S HOW

by Jacques More

23 times the Greek word EKLEKTOS is translated as either "chosen" or "elect" in the New Testament (NT).

There is NO OTHER Greek word from which "elect" comes from.

The Hebrew word BACHIR is what "elect" comes from in the Old Testament (OT).
On every occasion of BACHIR it is translated by EKLEKTOS in the Septuagint (LXX): the Greek version of the OT which Jesus and the apostles read and quoted from.
Here follows words in the Old Testament (OT) translated as EKLEKTOS in the LXX.

The LXX is the bible version Jesus and the apostles quoted from repeatedly.
It is a Greek translation of the Hebrew scripture made from about 250BC.

Ask yourself honestly:
Do you think Jesus' use and the apostles' use of EKLEKTOS in the Greek NT should differ from its use in the OT which THEY quoted?

In the article this page is linked from I mentioned 52 undisputed times EKLEKTOS translates from Hebrew words with (only) the overall emphasis of QUALITY: here is a cross section of these:

Seven cows . . . "fat" ["fatfleshed" KJV] - Genesis 41:2
Seven heads of grain . . . "plump" ["rank" (old English) KJV] - Genesis 41:5
"quality" spices ["pure" myrrh KJV] - Exodus 30:23
With the "pure" . . .Yourself "pure" - 2 Samuel 22:27
"Fatted" oxen . . . "fatted" fowl - 1 kings 4:23
"Young men"* (guys in their prime) - 2 Kings 8:12 (*often)
"Clear" as the sun - Song of Solomon 6:10
A "tried" stone - Isaiah 28:16
"Precious" stones - Isaiah 54:12
The "Desire" of All Nations - Haggai 2:7
"Pleasant" land - Zechariah 7:14

These help show QUALITY as the meaning of EKLEKTOS.
EKLEKTOS is not shown to mean SELECTED ("chosen" or "elect")

So, when you read "the elect" in the bible, think of:
"the excellent", the good guys, etc...

Here follows a link to a Septuagint (LXX) to English Interlinear for each of those examples.

Be careful to note the Greek ONLY; the English Interlinear for EKLEKTOS is often not helpful and contradicts the Hebrew word, which you can see does not mean the same as the English section of the interlinear (when denoting other than "quality"): you can see this by the very English translation of the Hebrew section which is the other link provided below for each of those examples.

What you are doing to see for yourself:
You are seeing that EKLEKTOS (number 1588) IS CLEARLY THERE to translate - THAT is what you are checking for yourself to see)
And, you are seeing for yourself the Hebrew word (which EKLEKTOS translates in the LXX as you've seen) is for something as per the English translation of the Hebrew, exactly as per the list.

Seven cows . . . "fat" ["fatfleshed" KJV] - Genesis 41:2
Genesis 41 in the NKJV
Genesis 41 in the LXX: Greek-English Interlinear

Seven heads of grain . . . "plump" ["rank" (old English) KJV] - Genesis 41:5
Genesis 41 in the NKJV
Genesis 41 in the LXX: Greek-English Interlinear

"quality" spices ["pure" myrrh KJV] - Exodus 30:23
Exodus 30 in the NKJV
Exodus 30 in the LXX: Greek-English Interlinear

With the "pure" . . .Yourself "pure" - 2 Samuel 22:27
2 Samuel 22 in the NKJV
2 Samuel 22 in the LXX: Greek-English Interlinear
You can see the unwarranted bias in the English Interlinear, it is PURE from the Hebrew word BARAR

"Fatted" oxen . . . "fatted" fowl - 1 kings 4:23
1 kings 4 in the NKJV
1 kings 4 in the LXX: Greek-English Interlinear

"Young men" (guys in their prime) - 2 Kings 8:12
2 Kings 8 in the NKJV
2 Kings 8 in the LXX: Greek-English Interlinear

"Clear" as the sun - Song of Solomon 6:10
Song of Solomon 6 in the NKJV
Song of Solomon 6 in the LXX: Greek-English Interlinear

"Pleasant" land - Zechariah 7:14
